Korean Concert Society is proud to announce that Quentin Kim has been appointed Composer-in-Residence for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. As Korean Concert Society’s second composer in residence, Kim will compose a work for piano to be performed at the 2012 Kennedy Center Recital in September as well as a work for cello in 2013.
Kim is noted as a composer of great emotional sincerity who is interested in exploring new ways of making tonal works modern and relevant, and he is also an accomplished pianist. He earned his doctorate in Piano Performance from Juilliard in 2010 and returned to Korea to take up the post of Professor of Piano at Pusan University in Korea.
KCS launched the Composer-in-Residence in 2003 to support the performance of new music, especially by composers of Korean heritage. By programing new works at our annual recitals, we hope to foster the careers of up-and-coming Korean composers and an increased appreciation of new music in the Korean music community.
